Sane Old Routine

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if there were more people like this watchman in horror movies? Or maybe there are and I just can’t think of any.
So, today’s question is: Can you think of any smart, foresightful, extra cautious people in horror movies? Or do they just die anyway despite their caution?
Oh sure, it’s just they usually die anyway. Usually wrong genre savvy.
The Cabin In The Woods, “Marty”
But, that having been said, given the situation, ,I think this is a measured, well-thought out response to most situations at the university.
What’s that the watchman’s getting into? A hiding place, or an emergency exit?
A stone sarcophagus. No doubt he drilled discrete airholes sometime back. And keeps emergency supplies, earplugs and brandy, ready to go.
I just noticed that you have pop-up comments on the action. Great. Now I have to go over all the strips and read them.
In dealing with horror situations, my researches (many hours of Call of Cthulhu RPG) reveals that even genre-savvy folks can be surprisingly foolish given a chance. The very first game ended with my fearless heroes fleeing New Orleans well before confronting the menace of the swamps unaware that they were already marked men. After posting their gruesome fates, at least the ones where recognizable body parts were found, I did a full reset on the campaign.
Still curiosity and greed were the downfall of many a well-played investigator.
I had one campaign derailed when a player figured out who the sorcerer was, went to his house, knocked on the door, and just shot him as soon as he opened the door. Preemptive self-defense.
