I’d say “curiosity killed the cat” is an especially Lovecraftian sentiment, but actually in Lovecraft’s stories the cats generally come out okay. Well, in the Dreamlands anyway.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve experienced the “He’s behind me right now, isn’t he?” moment. This has taught me (mostly) not to talk about people when they’re not around.
