I believe “at the wrong place at the wrong time” can be supplemented by “with the wrong people.”

If you have ever dropped your cell phone into a toilet, this is essentially the same thing.
This one goes out to all my English Major peers who have been graded on their spelling even as dead authors could write things any way they pleased and still become famous.
No notes from a Whateley, reverend or otherwise, can bode well.
