Here’s a little autobiographical tidbit about speaking in a foreign language. I long ago lost any fluency in German, mostly because I had few opportunities to speak it, but also because I never felt confident that I had it right. Very few people are comfortable correcting people’s “broken” speech, and for good reason. But when you’re trying to become fluent, you really need someone who you can trust to fix the little mistakes.
