I’m pretty sure this is what D.W. Griffith’s movie was trying to say.

This is really why they invented mixers and cocktails. And the rotgut made during Prohibition (in about 20 years) will make this stuff taste like Tullamore Dew.
D.W. Griffith gave me a low tolerance for Intolerance. I’d whack him on the back of the head with a rolled up newspaper if someone could arrange to recover his essential salts.
Speaking of film, I can’t help but remember Elizabeth’s rant to Capt. Jack Sparrow about the evils of alcohol in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Also, Winston, be thankful that wasn’t an era when ayahuasca was a go-to, consciousness-shifting brew among North Americans.
