I sense a recurring Philip K. Dickian theme of questioning reality here. Consciousness is weird when you think about it. Also recursive.
To quote a book written around that time, “You will find no wilder vision, then a city of men ask themselves whether or not they have any selves.” If only these gentlemen had read a certain saintly English journalist, then they might have escaped the slapstick nightmare they are surly headed for. Not that I would expect such holy writ to do anything but spontaneously combust when it came within a mile of the university. The evil there could not tolerate such goodness.
