I’m sure there’s someone out there who knows how phones worked in 1912 and know I got it wrong. Mainly what I know is that they didn’t have speed dial or Siri.

That looks right to me. And I probably watched a lot of the same old movies as you did. There’s a human operator who sees a light go on when you take the speaker end off that hook. She runs a patch cord to the subscriber you request and alerts them. It quickly became their job to help locate addresses, types of businesses and all the other things Siri does today. Which helps explain why Siri got a female voice without much planning.
