Stirring Oratory
Mar04
This strip speaks for itself.
(See what I did there?)
Frankly, coming up with something pithy or interesting to say for each strip is not always obvious to me. I don’t know, is there anything you’d like to know more about me, Miskatonic U, or the making of this strip? I’d be happy to answer!
What do you use to draw the strips? Are they freehand then scanned or do you use a graphics tab?
I experimented with drawing freehand and then scanning it in on the first strip, but I wound up hand-shading the background and taking ten times as long as a strip takes now. I mostly did that because having originals to sell someday would be a great thing.
But in the interest of meeting a deadline and actually getting things going, I switched to all digital. I draw directly into Photoshop with a Cintiq tablet monitor (best thing ever). This also helps me set up templates with pre-textured background colors so that drawing complicated backgrounds isn’t as time consuming as it could be. Really for being able to edit as I go I can’t recommend any other workflow.
I’m not sure what I’ll do when I go to my first comic convention (WonderCon in Anaheim CA, March 29-31, by the way). I guess I’ll make some prints and put them in a binder, and make sure I have a lot of promotional postcards. I won’t have a table or anything yet.
Thanks for the question!
…and thanks for the comprehensive answer.
