Chapter: Autumn 1911, Invitation to the Dance
Characters: Ernest Hazard, Winston Coward
Location: Room 102
As a college freshman, I did not own formal wear, but chances are many students in 1911 did. If this comes off as a bit vague, what I’m basically saying is Winston is poor.
So why would a fraternity want to recruit him?
I could answer that here, but I’ll let it play out!
They probably would have had formal dinner clothes, i.e. dinner jackets and ties, as they would have been expected to dress for dinner. This would be different from formal party clothes or other formal function clothes like a full tuxedo. Depending on the university, they might have had to wear academic dress/robes to formal university functions.
I don’t know why other fraternities might rush him, but I’m guessing a steady influx of “fresh meat” is essential for M.U. frats. 🙂
Lady liberty visits his pockets very seldom, let alone Mr. Hamilton.
