I think the Olympics would be very different if they operated on Winston’s motivation.
Having recently completed a first draft of a feature screenplay, I herewith forward the sentiments of Ernest Hemingway. You’d think Winston would be more familiar with his classical mythology. He just set up a “black sails” situation.
What are they complaining about? At least iron spikes aren’t unnamable eldritch horrors!
Idioms do make language usage more diverse and creative, but it’s a wonder sometimes that we understand anything in English the first time through. Then again, if English was straightforward, half of my punchlines wouldn’t work.
